Anointing of the Sick

PDF | Print

Anointing of the Sick

Anointing is the Church's sacrament for the sick. The first purpose of the anointing is to restore health to the sick, aged or dying, both physical as well as spiritual.

Secondly, the anointing helps terminally ill persons join their lives more deeply in faith to the mystery of the suffering, death and resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ.

Thirdly, for those about to die from an illness, anointing is the sign of the Lord's loving presence as they prepare for their final entry into the Kingdom of God.

The Sacrament of Healing is administered during Mass at least twice a year at St. Anthony Parish. To receive the sacrament before a surgery or during an illness, please call the parish office at 916-428-5678 to set up an appointment with Fr. Bong.
